Former NFL Star Hosting Camp at Huntington High School

Greg Buttle is bringing decades of experience in what it takes to be a top football player to Huntington High School when he hosts The Combine All Long Island Football Camp from July 28 to August 1.  It is especially aimed at players entering grades 7-12.

Buttle captained the Penn State football team, earning All-American honors before signing with the New York Jets and enjoying a nine-year NFL career that included several All-Pro selections.

Currently an on-air television and radio football analyst, Buttle will direct the camp along with legendary local college coach Lou Schiavetta.  “We have put together what we feel will be an exceptional camp experience,” Schiavetta said.

The camp will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day and include field and classroom sessions.  Campers can either use their own helmets, shoulder pads, jersey, pads and football shoes or rent gear.  Mouthpieces are also required.

The Huntington High School site includes a stunning synthetic turf field.  In a nod to the host district, Huntington School District players will receive a discount in the registration fee.

Schiavetta’s towering reputation was built as Stony Brook University’s offensive coordinator and recruiting guru.  He is widely regarded as a master motivator and enthusiastic teacher of young athletes. “We plan on providing each player with lots of attention in order to sharpen their technique and improve their ability,” Schiavetta said.

Quarterbacks will work on stance, three and five step drop backs, rollouts and passing drills.  Receivers and running backs will focus on balanced stance, ball drills, patterns and blocking.  Offensive linemen will learn the fundamentals of balance and technique in all facets of line play.  Defensive linemen and linebackers will also concentrate on balanced stance, body positioning and proper pad level.  Defensive backs will learn about play recognition, use of hands, stance and back pedal techniques and will engage in ball and strip drills.

Groups of players from the same team are encouraged to attend.  A small player to coach ratio is planned.  Buttle is well-known throughout NFL circles and has been involved in all aspects of camp planning.  “This is a great opportunity for young players to learn from someone who was a great college and professional player,” Schiavetta said about Buttle.  “Anyone interested in becoming a better football player should take advantage of the camp.”
