Blue Devil Cheerleaders Feted
Huntington seniors Christella Francois, Chetarra Godfrey, Shameika Hanson and Samantha Hofsiss were feted by cheerleading advisor Rebecca Robey at the Senior Athletic Awards Banquet.
“These young women have worked extremely hard for the past four years, most of them for two seasons each year,” Robey said. “Each season they have attempted to perfect their skill level beyond what they had achieved the season before. They have chosen this sport above others, and it is for these reasons I would like to recognize them.”
Robey presented Hofsiss with the fall season Most Improved Award saying “She worked so hard from the first time she stepped out onto the floor, always pushing herself to the next level. She worked from performing the basic stunts to all the way to flying and balancing in the air on one leg. I was extremely proud of her efforts and determination.”
Hanson earned the fall MVP Award. “I knew I could count on her for whatever I needed done” Robey said. “She was a strong leader with a ‘take charge’ attitude. She kept the squad moving.”
Francois won the winter season Most Improved Award. “In the beginning, she was always a bit timid, especially when it came time to perform the dance routines,” Robey said. “But, she has pushed herself and has made great strides in becoming that spirited cheerleader that makes you smile.”
Godfrey was the winter season MVP. “If we needed a dance or a new cheer, we knew who to call,” Robey said. “If we need someone who could teach the others, she was the first to come to mind; always patient, ever joyful, always there. From her first season we knew she could dance and leading others came naturally. It was a pleasure working with her.”
