Huntington School Briefs


A retirement party is planned for Kate Bender and Rita Carino at The Harbor Club in Halesite on Thursday, July 17 from 4-8 p.m. Ms. Bender is retiring as an administrative assistant in the Huntington School District’s Office of Human Resources. Ms. Carino is retiring as secretary to the assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction.

 

Tickets are available for $75, which will include a refreshment hour, full sit-down dinner, additional refreshments, cake, ice cream bar, gratuity and gifts. For more information contact Joan Esposito in the Office of Superintendent at 673-2038.



Vincent J. Russo has been appointed to serve as a lecturer in the summer driving education program at Huntington High School. Mr. Russo holds BS (political science, 1986) and MS (special education, 1988) degrees from Hofstra University and is permanently certified in driver and traffic safety by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles. He has worked as a lecturer and road instructor at Mineola High School since 1995 and has been the driver education program coordinator there since 2001.



Christina Badalamenti and Chris Lau earned first and second place finishes, respectively, in the National Italian Exam competition to pace a strong showing by Huntington High School students. Luis Mendez, Evan McGann and Fabricio Vasquez gained honorable mention recognition. There are several different exam levels and students take a test commensurate with their degree of knowledge. They are recognized among the students taking the test on their respective level across the world.



Huntington High School seniors Julien Feldman (Emory Univ.), Shameika Hanson (Suffolk Community College) and Matthew Meszaros (Syracuse Univ.) recently announced receipt of college acceptance letters.



Jean M. Roncallo has donated Vogue pattern magazines and sewing supplies valued at $350 to the Huntington High School fashion design program. Lynn Somin-Kaminski, a Huntington alumnus, donated an Olympus OM-1 camera with accessories and three lenses valued at $250 to the high school photography program.



J. Taylor Finley Middle School will hold its annual awards night on Wednesday, June 25 in the building’s large group instruction (LGI) room, as the auditorium is known. Finley’s eighth grade dinner dance is the next night, Thursday, June 26 from 5-8 p.m. in and around the gym.



Woodhull and Huntington Intermediate schools will hold moving up exercises for sixth graders on Friday, June 27 at 9:45 a.m.
