Huntington School Board Notes
Huntington School Board members approved numerous personnel appointments at their first meeting of the new school year, which was held earlier this month. Trustees approved special education summer program staff, including clerical worker Elizabeth Schumacher and aides Noreen Doyle, Kelly Doyle, Elisa Guaqueta, Deanna Boccard, Elizabeth Crokett and Zachary Ajzenman.
Trustees also appointed Diane Judd as a principal stenographer (replacing Rita Carino who retired), David Ehlers as a custodian (replacing James Greene), Frank Conforti as part-time energy education manager, Al White as part-time property control manager, Araceli Espinal as a 5.5 hour food service worker at Woodhull Intermediate School (replacing Lenore Fusaro) and Olga Velasquez as a four hour food service worker at Jack Abrams Intermediate School (replacing Laura Asaro).
Additional work was approved for aide Linda Guido (seven hours to assist in preparation of Regents exams), school nurse Katherine Khokhar and two other as yet unidentified school nurses (sports physicals on Sept. 2), and special education aide Sandra Brusca (eight hour per week, effective July 1 through June 30, 2009 as per the recommendation of the Committee on Special Education that a specific student receive parent counseling and training.)
Trustees appointed summer reading program aides to serve from Aug. 4-22. The aides include Paula Blackwell, Helene Constantine, Carol Cruz, Paula Kavanagh, Anne Marie LaFiandra, Marianne Matarazzo, Clare Mobley, Stephanie Moore, Victoria Petruzzelli, Janet Robertson, Lourdes Sagredo, Linda Uliano and Veronica Velazques.
Kathleen Horn was appointed as the nurse for the program and Eva Marie Lodato will serve as secretary.
Trustees accepted resignation letters from Woodhull Intermediate School aide Vanessa Stokley (effective July 1) and J. Taylor Finley Middle School food service worker Marie Cheriel (effective at the close of business on June 27).
Special education teacher Andrea Neugebauer was granted tenure, effective Sept. 1, 2008.
Myesha Calderon was retroactively appointed a teacher assistant at Finley Middle School, effective Oct. 1, 2007. She is eligible for tenure on Oct. 1, 2010.
Elementary teacher Allison Curran resigned her position, effective at the close of business on June 30.
Woodhull special education teacher Kelly Trites (Sept. 1 through Jan. 23, 2009) and Washington Primary School special education teacher Alissa German (Sept. 1 through approximately Nov. 21) has each been granted child care related leaves of absence.
Teachers Jennifer Bruno, Marisa Damiano, Susan Danzig, Lorena Diaz, Conrad Dierking, Theresa Duffy, Carol Ammerman, Sarah Fardella, Alissa German, Arlette Hall-Connolly, Megan Himmelman, Jessica Medina and Karen Morea were all approved for salary schedule changes after completing graduate school coursework.
Trustees approved teachers Karen Swanson, Allison Muradyan, Louise Sugrue, Janet Myers, Sarah Fardella, Carly Vasilakos, Patricia Anson and Jennifer Irvolino to supervise teacher assists. Each of the teachers will supervise one teacher assistant, respectively, except for Ms. Anson (two TAs) and Ms. Vasilakos (five TAs). The teachers will be paid a stipend of $366 per teacher assistant supervised.
