Huntington Assistant Superintendent David H. Grackin has created a draft Disaster Recovery Plan at the behest of the district’s internal and external auditors.  The work, sometimes referred to as a “business continuity plan” has been reviewed by an ad hoc committee of technology personnel and administrators.

In his 2007 annual report on school district accountability, State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli noted: “Another major concern that focused on focused on safeguarding data integrity was the lack of appropriate data back-up procedures and disaster recovery plans.”  The comptroller encouraged districts to undertake contingency planning to deal with the possible loss of “computer equipment and date and outline procedures for recovery.”

The district is in the process of determining “the cost of providing the level of assurance the comptroller’s office is seeking,” Mr. Grackin said.
