Huntington School Briefs

Huntington Intermediate School’s production of “Alice in Wonderland” was enhanced by the work of Huntington High School students Michelle Reiss, Merissa Rosenfeld and Mike Funk, who were responsible “for running the show technically,” according to Kenneth Gilbert, the faculty stage manager advisor.

While Mr. Gilbert set-up the sound system, it was the trio of high school students who toiled throughout the show to help make it a smashing success

Huntington Superintendent John J. Finello said the district has received 71 applications for the soon-to-be vacant position of assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction. The post is currently being filled on an interim basis by Michael O’Brien, who will be leaving at the close of the school year after two years of service to the district. Mr. O’Brien retired from the Kings Park school district in 2006 and is limited by state law to two years of work in Huntington.

Mr. Finello said the district has invited 15 prospective candidates to a pre-screening on Feb. 28. “This short, informal screening is the first step toward selecting a candidate,” Mr. Finello said. “Successful applicants will be invited to a formal interview with the entire selection committee.”
