Huntington School Board Notes


Lauren Friedrich was authorized to continue working as a long term substitute compensatory math teacher at Huntington Intermediate School. She has been a long term sub since February 2007.

 

Sarah Hene was appointed to work as an art teacher at Southdown and Flower Hill schools from January 28 to February 5. She has been working as a long term substitute since September 2007.



Vincent Tannazo and Melanie DeMarco were approved to work two hours per week in the after school state math test preparation program at J. Taylor Finley Middle School. The positions carry a stipend of $45.77 per hour, which will be covered by a grant.



Elementary classroom teacher Collen Mahoney was approved to return from a child care related leave of absence, effective September 1, 2008.



Elementary teacher Suzanne Proimos was given a leave of absence for child care reasons, effective January 15 through April 1.



Trustees increased the assignment of Esmeralda Tello from .6 social studies and .2 ESL to .8 social studies and .2 ESL, effective through June 30. The additional assignment will be fund by a mentoring grant.



School Board members authorized teachers to provide up to 50 hours of Regents and RCT review sessions outside of regular classes. Faculty members staffing the classes will be paid $45.77 per hour.

 

Huntington High School ESL teacher Silvia Gilbert was approved to work up to 10 hours at $45.77 per hour tutoring ESL students in reading and writing. A Title III grant will fund the work.



Trustees approved Susan Hahn (drama club) and Laraine Schirripa (science club) as Huntington Intermediate School extracurricular advisors.



Simon MacVicar (percussion) and Michael Marchenna (guard) were appointed to the winter marching band staff.



Trustees approved a tenure recommendation for reading teacher Dorene Karivalis, effective February 28.



Trustees approved a college lacrosse game on the Blue Devil Stadium synthetic turf field between SUNY College at Plattsburgh and Eastern Connecticut University. The game will be played on March 18. The contest will feature several Huntington alumni.



Business office employee Lori Brett and ESL teacher Maria Lanzot where authorized to receive reimbursement for work related travel between school buildings.



Per Dobler, Hillary Hess and Lisa Mattucci were approved by trustees to serve as parent members on the district’s Committee on Special Education and Committee on Preschool Special Education.



Trustees appointed Gabrielle Gurrieri and Yannick Damour to work as special education aides, effective Jan. 29.



Huntington High School secretary Eileen Passariello was approved to retire from her position, effective April 30.



Maryann Mavrogian, Karen Beirne and Allison Tannenbaum were added to the district’s non-instructional substitute list. They will work per diem on an as-needed basis.



Trustees approved changes in assignment for Rosemary Fleming and Hatice Ayden. Ms. Fleming, a 10-month clerk typist, will move from Jefferson Primary School to J. Taylor Finley Middle School, effective Jan. 29. Ms. Ayden, a food service worker at Huntington Intermediate School, was retroactively approved to work five hours a day, instead of the previously approved four.



Zaida Cortes was authorized to work as an aide in the after school ELA, math and science state test preparation program at Woodhull Intermediate School. Her $17.19 per hour salary will be funded by a Title III grant.



Helen Brannelly, Stephanie Cartwright, Kim Criscuola, Teresa Ford, Amy Gagnon, Christopher Hender, Jill Hren, Patrick Malone, MaryAnn Mavrogian, Sharima Morton, Travis Uvena and Stephon Sair were approved to work as substitute teachers on a per diem basis. They will be paid $90 per diem when they work.
