Huntington School Board Notes
Huntington School Board members approved Brianne Schilt to work as a long-term substitute guidance counselor at Huntington High School through December 19. She will be filling in for college counselor Bernadette Walsh who will be away from her full-time position for child care related reasons.
Ms. Schilt obtained an undergraduate degree at the University of Connecticut in May 2001 in psychology. She earned a Master of Science degree at Hofstra University in May 2007 in school counseling.
Prior to coming to Huntington, Ms. Schilt worked as a permanent substitute teacher in the West Babylon school district (March – June 2008), as a leave replacement school counselor at Jericho Middle School (January – March 2008), as a permanent substitute teacher at Locust Valley High School (May – December 2007) and as the varsity cheerleading coach at West Babylon high School (May 2007 to present).
Trustees also took the following actions:
• Awarded a bid for bread products to Neri’s Bakery Distribution, Inc. and Rockland Bakery.
• Approved budget transfers from one account to another in order to cover costs associated with after school club program salaries at Huntington High School ($1,024.60), English department writing folders used at both J. Taylor Finley Middle School and Huntington High School ($514.65) and summer literacy program bus transportation ($14,100).
• Noted there were no bids submitted for the disposal of surplus equipment and textbooks. The district will now “dispose of these items in the most environmentally responsible way possible,” Assistant Superintendent David H. Grackin said.
• Approved salary schedule changes for 15 teachers who have completed advanced graduate level study.
• Approved Alyson Alvarez to work as a home tutor between July 1 and June 30, 2009 on an as-needed basis. She will be paid $47.07 per hour when she works.
• Approved salary schedule changes for maintenance worker James Muller and Huntington High School security guards Jeremy Pellot and Tina McDermott.
• Appointed Tyrone Alvarado to work as a teacher aide in the dual language program and recalled from the preferred eligibility list Kerri Gebbia to work as a teacher aide at Washington Primary School. The appointments are effective September 1.
• Hired health teacher Patricia Quinn to work as a driver education instructor in the after school driver ed program. She will be paid $44.92 per hour.
• Appointed Joann Kavanagh as the Huntington Teacher Center director at an annual stipend of $19,000, which is covered by a state grant.
• Authorized Ignatius Asaro, Michael Byrnes, Shari Campbell, Krystle Canino, Maria Canino, Rose Canino, Steve Davis, Jovan Hairston, James McCabe, John Mohlenhoff, Tara Reminick, Ann Marie Romeo, Jonathan Searles and Steve Muller to work as district supervisors/chaperones at interscholastic athletic events. They will be paid $30.47 per hour when they work.
• Added Rose Ackerly, Shirley Campbell, Michael Catania, Lisa DeNicolis, Nicole Dibiase, Lindsay Griffiths, Katie Himelein, Lisa Karasik, Laura Luksik, Mary Ellen Rothberg, Brittany Sirlin, Janet Vitello.
