Huntington School Briefs


Huntington School Board members accepted the resignation of Huntington High School foreign language teacher Jorge E. Mosquera, effective Sept. 2. He intends to leave the profession.

 

Trustees approved the appointment of Joanne Gurrieri as a principal stenographer assigned to the district office, effective Aug. 5. Jeremy Pellot was hired to work as a high school security guard, effective Sept. 1.



Alexandra Cope, Karen Dwyer, William Jackson, Chad Lupinacci, Mark Pepe and Deborah Winans were all approved to work in the Huntington School District as home tutors. They will be paid $47.07 per hour when they work.



Monica McReynolds, Fran Orelli and Tanya Robert were approved to work as teacher aides in the district’s special education summer program that runs through Aug. 31. They will work seven hours per day.

 

David Ehlers, an employee in Huntington’s Buildings and Grounds Dept., had his shift changed at Jefferson Primary School. J. Taylor Finley Middle School food service worker Diane Chaney had her assignment changed from four hours to 5.5 hours per day, effective Sept. 1.



A meeting of Huntington band parents will be held at Huntington High School on Weds. Sept. 10 at 8 p.m.



The J. Taylor Finley Middle School PTA will hold a meeting on Thurs. Sept. 1 at 7:30 p.m. All parents are invited to attend.



The Huntington High School homecoming parade is scheduled for Sat. Sept. 27 at 10:30 a.m. It will start at Gerard Street, proceed down Main Street and then up New York Avenue, before heading west on Holdsworth Drive to the school. The parade will be followed by a 1:30 p.m. football game between the Blue Devils and Hauppauge. A dance for students will be held in the gym from 8 p.m. to midnight.

 

Informal alumni gatherings are expected to held at various locations in Huntington village throughout the weekend.



Jonathan Correll, a member of Huntington High School’s Class of 2008, will attend Cornell University in Ithaca this fall. He intends to major in applied economics and management. Three activities most dear to him have been Boy Scouts, community service and sports. He has worked toward earning an Eagle Scout award, volunteered at Huntington Hospital and was a member of the Blue Devil crew team for three years, including serving two years as captain.



During the 2007/08 school year, Huntington School District attendance teacher Noreen Hernandez and individual school attendance secretaries determined that a total of 50 students were residing outside the district. All of these students were told at the time they could not attend school in the Huntington UFSD and would have to attend school in the district in which they resided, except for one senior who was permitted to complete the year.

 

The actual home districts of these “out of district” students was determined to be: Half Hollow Hills, South Huntington, Wyandanch, Harborfields, Stony Brook, Lindenhurst, Elwood, Bay Shore, Northport, Brooklyn, Central Islip, Brentwood, Cold Spring Harbor, Commack and Oyster Bay.



The Huntington School District has entered into an agreement with Integra Consulting and Computer Services, Inc. of Bay Shore to provide e-rate processing services involving free and reduced lunch data, student counts, copies of bills for eligible services and limited projects. The annual cost for the services is $7,500. The agreement runs through June 30, 2009.



Coughlin Foundotos Cullen & Danowski, LLP was retained by the Huntington School District to provide external auditing services during the 2008/09 school year. The firm will be paid $44,900.



Sam Schoeffler, a member of Huntington High School’s Class of 2008, will attend SUNY Binghamton in the fall. He plans to major in business. An active participant in the activities of the Jewish Nutritional Network, Mr. Schoeffler spent a considerable amount of time at the JNN during high school, making hundreds of lunches for homeless people in the area. He participated on the Blue Devil winter and spring track teams.
