Marcellino Secures $60K Grant for Huntington School District

Senator Carl MarcellinoSenator Carl Marcellino has provided a proverbial shot in the arm to the Huntington School District in the form of a $60,000 "bullet aid” grant.  The state funds will be used to defray expenses associated with the educational program, thereby saving local property taxpayers money.

“As in past years, there are no restrictions on these funds; this bullet money may be used for any educational enrichment project or program that your district is desirous of implementing,” Mr. Marcellino wrote in a letter to Huntington Superintendent John J. Finello.  The district has already identified a use for the grant.

“The money will be used exclusively to fund our alternative high school program,” Mr. Finello said.  “This program will provide support for at-risk students by providing an educational environment which will help to insure their success in high school.”

Prior to serving as an elected official, Mr. Marcellino enjoyed a 20-year career as a science teacher in the New York City public schools.  His wife, Patricia, holds a doctorate in education and is an associate professor at Adelphi University in its School of Education.

Huntington has been working to control property tax increases and has aggressively pursued grants in recent years to cover the costs of various educational programs.  “With increasing pressure to hold the line on local property taxes, this bullet grant can help your district maintain its outstanding level of educational services without adding to the local tax burden,” Mr. Marcellino said.

Mr. Marcellino is chairman of the Senate Environmental Conservation Committee and is also a member of the Education, Banking, Civil Service and Pensions, Consumer Protection, Labor, Mental Health & Developmental Disabilities and Social Services, Children & Families committees.

“We appreciate your efforts in support of our on-going goal to provide a quality education for all students in our district,” Mr. Finello wrote in a letter to Mr. Marcellino.  “We will continue to strive toward excellence as a public school district servicing the Huntington community.  Thank you for your steadfast commitment to our district.”
