Blue Devil Marching Band Heading to State Championships

Marching BandThe Huntington Blue Devil marching band will head to Syracuse University’s Carrier Dome the last weekend in October to vie for the New York State Field Band Conference championship in a daylong competition featuring the top 50 bands in the state.

Huntington will battle bands from Jamestown, Baldwinsville, Central Square, East Ramapo, Horseheads and Lancaster in the Large School Division 2 class.  Competition will begin at 8 a.m. and continue through to 10 p.m. on Sunday, October 28.  Huntington and its competitors will take to the field starting at 3 p.m.  Tickets are available at the gate.

Marching BandA two-hour highlight film of the championships, which will include about 10,000 band members, will be aired by PBS stations across the state in November.  The state competition concludes the eight-week fall season that has already seen the Blue Devils win several shows.

The season began back in August when Huntington held its annual weeklong band camp and has continued for two months with grueling practices and competitions.

Marching BandAt the state championships, each band must perform a seven to ten minute musical and visual show for a ten judge panel.  Bands are then ranked in order with the winner in each class presented the prestigious Governor’s Cup, in addition to a first place plaque.  A performance by the Syracuse University marching band will conclude the state championships.
