Alumnus Thanks Teacher More than Four Decades Later

More than four decades after graduating from Huntington High School, David L. Misilewich is still grateful to one of his former teachers, Joseph Muir who taught him the craft of printing, a skill that has led to a more than 40 year career in the industry.

Mr. Misilewich recently contacted Jack Abrams, curator of the School Heritage Museum for information about Mr. Muir.  Former teacher and former student were put in contact with each other and Mr. Misilewich, a 1965 Huntington alumnus, was able to thank Mr. Muir for his help and inspiration of many years ago.

Now a resident of National Park, New Jersey, Mr. Misilewich has 44 years of printing industry background with the past 40-plus focused on small business service type products.  For many years he was employed by Histacount Corporation in Melville. After the company was acquired by Rapidforms in 1994, he transferred to a New Jersey facility, accepting a second shift manager position where he supervises night operations.

He has been married to his wife, Phyllis for the past four decades and has four grown children, David, Jennifer, Catherine and Charlene and four grandchildren.  All of the children are living in South Jersey.  Mr. Misilewich enjoys woodworking, tinkering and gardening in his spare time.  He and his wife are very active in their local parish church.

Working with local school districts, Mr. Misilewich headed the team that coordinated a school to work program for high school seniors who were planning to forego college and immediately enter the business world.

Mr. Misilewich has a certificate in Industrial Labor Relations from Cornell University and has received the New York State Award for Industrial Arts.  He has held a number of local union positions, including president, vice-president and shop steward.

For information on former Huntington teachers contact Mr. Abrams at the School Heritage Museum (located at Huntington High School) by calling 673-2048.
