Halloween Dance Packed at Finley

Since the day it opened J. Taylor Finley Middle School has enjoyed a remarkable amount of student participation in its extra-curricular activities program. That includes sports, clubs, school dances, plays and concerts. The building debuted in September 1965, but that same phenomenon continues today.

Last Friday night more than 300 seventh and eighth graders turned out for Finley’s annual Halloween dance. PTA members supplied snacks and cookies and cupcakes decorated with a Halloween theme. The student council provided refreshments.

Many students arrived in creative costumes and the teenagers packed the gym. Principal John Amato said the PTA planned on presenting a Best Costume Award, but found it too difficult. So, the organization took dance tickets with the student’s names on them, put them in a bag and held a drawing for four prizes, including a tray of cookies, two assorted Finley sportswear packages and an iPod Nano Silver, which was won by seventh grader Lindsay Sullivan.

A holiday dance is scheduled at Finley for Friday, December 18 from 7 to 9 p.m. Another large crowd is expected to attend.
