Finley Results Remarkable on Earth Science Regents
Donna Moro and Judy Pazienza are walking on “Cloud Nine.” The two J. Taylor Finley Middle School teachers are quite pleased with the performance of their students on the June Earth Science Regents exam. Why? Well, every single student passed the exam and reached the mastery level with the lowest score being a still lofty 88.
Three classes of advanced eighth graders enjoyed staggering success on the challenging state test. The State Education Department defines mastery as a grade of 85 or better. In fact, only three Finley students out of 70 who sat for the Earth Science Regents scored below a 90.
Huntington School Board members approved an extra section of the class last summer following increased student interest. The district has long taken pride in an exceptional science program at every grade level.
“These students deserve our congratulations for remarkable results on a difficult exam,” Superintendent John J. Finello said. “We salute the Finley faculty members who worked with them and their parents who have provided support and encouragement throughout the school year.”
“This is a testament to the resolve of the board of education, the central administration and the two Earth Science teachers at Finley Middle School, Donna Moro and Judy Pazienza,” said David Casamento, district director of science.
