Huntington Principal Sends Homecoming Letter to Parents

Huntington High School Principal Carmela Leonardi wants Homecoming 2008 to be both memorable and safe.  So she sent students and parents a short letter outlining some key points for the weekend, along with a schedule of activities and the code of conduct for school dances.

“Events such as Homecoming make high school experiences memorable,” Dr. Leonardi wrote in her letter.  “They also strengthen social ties and foster cooperation.  We would love to see parents there.  We invite all our families to participate in this type of high school activity.”

Students will build class floats Friday night (Sept. 26) at the school from 6 p.m. to midnight.  Float judging will be held Saturday (Sept. 27) at 9 a.m. in front of the school.  A parade through Huntington village and up New York Avenue to the high school will kick-off on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.  A football game is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. against Hauppauge.  A student dance is slated for Saturday night from 8 p.m. to midnight in the school gym.

“It is important to all of us that students enjoy school events and come away from them with positive experiences,” Dr. Leonardi said.  “The guidelines enclosed with this letter are intended to help all students reach the desired goal of having a good time while living up to the expectation of civil and safe behavior.  I ask that you discuss them with your son/daughter and that you support the guidelines intended to promote safety.”

The enclosure included a list of dance related reminders and an overview of what is expected of students who attend.  Last year a crowd of about 500 turned out for the Homecoming dance and a similar level of attendance is expected later this month.
