Huntington High School
The staff members at Huntington High School pride themselves in providing a challenging academic environment as well as opportunities for leadership, citizenship and service. Our instructional programs address all levels of performance. We offer a large selection of Advanced Placement courses in all disciplines. Our Foreign Language program in French, Italian, Latin and Spanish offer advanced, honors and AP level courses with an option to acquire college credits.
Our arts, music and physical education programs are among the best and most competitive in the country. Over the past three years our teams have won multiple championships in football, lacrosse, and wrestling. Support programs for students include diversified special education services, inclusive ESL programs, bilingual math and science courses, an alternative high school setting and extra help sessions provided by our teachers. Students choose from an extensive and creative list of electives and are afforded the opportunity to join over 40 student activities. Career exploration is provided through a well delineated internship program that allows all 11th and 12th grade students to pursue special interests. Active student groups focus on community services that teach compassion, empathy and social responsibility. The honor societies combine academic excellence with the responsibility to share talents and skills with other students throughout the district who need support in specific content areas. Over 100 upper classmen mentor our freshmen class. Our drama productions provide a showcase for the magnificent talent of gifted students, exceptional staff and a stage crew that is organized, creative, and efficient. Our school newspaper, The Dispatch, shares provocative and insightful ideas. Over the last three years The Dispatch has been awarded honors and recognition for both layout and content.
The guidance department and the college counseling center provides students and their families with information intended to aid students in making the best possible course choices. Each year our seniors are accepted by the most competitive colleges and universities in the country including Cornell, Harvard, the U.S. Naval Academy, Dartmouth, University of Pennsylvania, Duke, Fordham, Columbia, Lehigh, Tufts, Vanderbilt and many others. We pride ourselves in assisting our students to gain acceptance to the college that can best meet their needs and interests. This year we have two National Merit scholarship program semifinalists, one of whom qualified with a perfect score. Through our monthly Pride Award program, teachers nominate and recognize a large number of students who are working diligently to improve their academic performance. It is through the efforts of dedicated teachers, staff members and devoted parents that we are able to provide a challenging and supportive environment for all students. Huntington High School’s tradition of academic excellence and social responsibility will continue to provide the foundation from which our community’s youth will draw strength and inspiration.
