Blue Devil Lax Alum Inducted into Hall of Fame


Paul CicioFormer Huntington lacrosse great Paul Cicio has been inducted into the South Florida chapter of the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame during a festive dinner in West Palm Beach. The legendary Blue Devil was recognized for being “a truly great official."

 

Mr. Cicio graduated from Huntington High School in 1984 along with his twin sister, Laura. During his high school years he captained the Blue Devil wrestling and lacrosse teams and was All-County in both sports, adding All-American honors as a senior in lacrosse after an outstanding year as an attackman. He went on to play for four years on the SUNY College at Cortland lacrosse team, where he was a two-time All-SUNY honoree and honorable mention All-American. He captained his college squad.

 

For the past 15 years, Mr. Cicio has lived with his wife Linda in Jupiter, Florida. The couple has two sons, Anthony and Luke, ages 12 and three, respectively. The former Blue Devil played with the Palm Beach Lacrosse Club for nine years, winning six championships along the way.

 

A physical education teacher and athletic coach, Mr. Cicio works at the Palm Beach Day School. It’s an exclusive private school in West Palm Beach for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. He also works as a lacrosse referee at the NCAA and high school levels.

 

Mr. Cicio’s coaching career has included a stint at Huntington High School from 1990-92 and even a season as an assistant coach at Cortland. In 2005 he founded the South Florida Officials Association and remains its president today. During his career he has officiated many Florida high school state championship games as well as spring college contests at the Division I, II and III levels. He is known as one of the elite officials in the sport on a national level and has worked the prestigious Vail Shootout High School Championships and the NCAA Men’s Division IA Championships.

 

For the past four years, Mr. Cicio has been the lead official in charge of assigning referees throughout the Southern Florida region.

 

Although he is now closely tied to lacrosse, Mr. Cicio was a key cog in the Blue Devil wrestling machine while in high school. In won the 1984 league championship and went on the place that year in the Section XI tournament. Huntington won the county team title in both his junior and senior seasons, and was ranked first in the state in 1984.


Mr. Cicio’s sister-in-law, Joanne, is a teacher in the Huntington School District. His brother, Al, teaches and coaches in the Northport School District.
