Faculty members from J. Taylor Finley Middle School recently volunteered as “celebrity scoopers” at Ben & Jerry’s in Huntington Village during Free Cone Day. Proceeds from the day went to support the Tri-Community Youth Agency’s summer programs for local youth, including taking kids to the pool, swimming lessons, trips to Splish Splash Park, etc. “The money helps defer the cost for students who otherwise would not be able to go,” said Nancy Forster, a parent of a Finley student. The event stretched from 4 to 9 p.m.
The Huntington Intermediate School science fair is scheduled for Wednesday, May 14 from 4 – 6 p.m.
Huntington High School students are invited to apply for a summer intern position with the Cornell Cooperative Extension team working on a shellfish enhancement and restoration program project in the greater Huntington-Northport Bay complex. Last year more than two million hard shell clams and one million oysters were grown and planted in local waters by team members.
Interns will assist with the program and learn about aquaculture, receive training in a variety of marine life areas and participate in the town’s Camp Gold Star educational summer program.
For more information or to apply contact Sean O’Donnell or Dr. Matthew Sclafani of the Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Marine Program at 180 Little Neck Road, Centerport, 11721 or call them at (631) 239-1800 extension 24.
