Huntington Alum a Four-Time All-American

Huntington alumnus Shaheim Bradshaw earned All-American honors for the fourth time in his college career at the 2008 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Bradshaw became only the fourth four-time All-American in the history of the illustrious SUNY College at Brockport mat program.  Brockport is coached by 1961 Huntington graduate Donald F. Murray, who has served as a professor at the school for nearly four decades.

Bradshaw won the Suffolk championship his senior year in 2004 while competing for the Blue Devils and coach Lou Giani.  He went on to take second in the New York State tournament.  At Brockport, he is majoring in physical education and after graduating hopes to teach and coach.

Seeded fifth in the national tournament, Bradshaw was edged by the College of New Jersey’s Justin Bonitatas in the first round, 5-4.  He then stormed back through the consolation bracket, defeating Jason Wozniak of Wisconsin- Lacrosse by a 9-1 score before edging Patrick Nagel of Wisconsin-Whitewater, 12-5.  Bradshaw followed with a pin of Wartburg College’s Justin Hanson and then moved past first seeded Tim Palmer of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, 7-2.

Bradshaw captured third place in the nation when he topped sixth seeded Ben Youel of North Central College, 7-5.  Earlier in the season he won the state collegiate championship and earned the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler Award after defeating top-seeded Mike Mackie of Cornell Univ. in the finals, 12-4.

Murray, whose mother still lives on Oakwood Road near Huntington High School and who frequently visits the area, has been Brockport’s head coach since 1970 and in the 38 seasons since then has won 282 dual meets and developed 26 national champions and 132 All-Americans.
