Blue Devil Alumni in College Soccer Ranks

Emily Sammis was an all-state soccer player for Huntington High School, in addition to being a top notch basketball and lacrosse player, too. The 5-5 dynamo duplicated her soccer success on the college level at the University of Delaware.

Sammis capped off a fine collegiate career by starting all 18 games as a senior for Delaware (8-10), scoring six goals from her midfield position and compiling four assists. She scored one game-winner and managed to get off 33 shots in all.

Co-captain of this year’s Delaware team, Sammis earned 3rd team All-Colonial Athletic Conference honors, was on the CAA Academic Honor Roll and won a CAA Co-Player of the Week award. She is majoring in finance.

Former Huntington soccer star Jack Scott played in 16 games for Union College (13-4-4) last fall, helping the team to a runner-up finish in the ECAC Division III championships.

Scott, a 6-1, 205 lb. forward, scored a pair of goals, launched 14 shots, including nine on goal for the Schenectady school. Last year in 12 goals he recorded an assist. In addition to his high school soccer career, he also played on the Blue Devil basketball team that won the county championship his senior year.

Michelle Orelli turned in a very solid freshman season for the University of Hartford soccer team, which finished with a 7-6-5 mark. Orelli, a 5-3 midfielder, scored two goals and added an assist in 15 games. She started five contests.

At Huntington High School, Orelli was a four year star and twice won all-state honors. This season, she scored the game winner for Hartford when the team toppled SUNY Binghamton, 2-0. Orelli is majoring in health sciences.

Kate Morrissey was one of the best Huntington soccer goalies of the past two decades, and she is proving to be equally brilliant on the college level. The 5-5 sophomore recorded six shutouts and 70 saves in 17 games for Muhlenberg College, which finished with a record of 8-6-3.

Muhlenberg, which is located in Allentown, Pennsylvania, is a member of the Centennial Conference. Morrissey opened the season with a shutout and closed it with another shutout. She is a key player on the team.
