Finley Student Dress Code Spelled Out for Parents

Principal John Amato and J. Taylor Finley Middle School teachers and support staff members have high expectations for the more than 700 students who will be attending classes in the building this year.

Mr. Amato and Assistant Principal Kenneth C. Parham expect students to come prepared and ready to give their best effort each day, respecting one another and the adults who work educating them and keeping them safe.

The seventh and eighth graders are also asked to dress appropriately for school. It’s a requirement that is strictly enforced and one that is spelled out for both students and their parents.

“Students are expected to follow the district and building dress codes,” Mr. Amato wrote in a letter sent to parents last week. “Specifically, students must wear clothing that adequately covers the body. Under garments may not be visible at any time. Clothing may not promote any products that are inappropriate or illegal or contain foul language or images. Students may be asked to call a parent to bring new clothing for the day. Students may bring backpacks to school for their books, but they may not be carried from class to class. They may place them in their lockers.”

Finley has been serving the community since September 1965. Students educated in the building have gone on to notch impressive accomplishments at Huntington High School and gain acceptance to the finest colleges and universities in the country. That same tradition continues today.
