Christian Fiordelisi a
Brine All-American
The selection process was grueling, but as far as Huntington High School sophomore Christian Fiordelisi is concerned, it was well worth it. The teenager qualified for the Long Island North team, a group of 25 elite 10th and 11th graders who will compete in next summer’s Brine High School All-American National Lacrosse Classic in Maryland.
The National Games will feature 16 teams comprised of 400 players or 25 per team. The competition will be held at the Maryland Soccerplex near Germantown. The event will showcase the top lacrosse players selected to represent their respective region of the country as they compete for the national championship.
The Long Island North team includes the top 25 sophomores and juniors among the 250 who tried out. The next set of 25 players was selected for the Long Island South team.
The Long Island tryouts were held in early December at Cantiague Park in Hicksville. Fiordilisi was picked by a panel of evaluators and coaches from the Tri-State area. The process was very competitive, forcing a second call-back tryout.
“The competition was fierce,” Fiordelisi said about the selection process. “I’m humbled to be chosen from such a great bunch of players and I am excited to play with kids that are already committed to crazy programs like Johns Hopkins, Duke and Notre Dame.”
Fiordelisi is expected to play attack for the Blue Devil varsity team this spring and be a significant contributor to the program. He’s enrolled in several honors courses at Huntington High School and boasts an academic average of 95. The teenager is also involved in Huntington’s Habitat for Humanity chapter and Young Leaders, a community youth development and service organization.
“Christian is an up and coming underclassman who I expect will contribute to our 2013 season,” said Paul McDermott, Huntington’s head coach. “He has a great dodge from ‘X’ and is very unselfish, always looking to feed the ball to his teammates. He has great field sense and I feel his future looks bright in the lacrosse world.”
The Brine All-American is the brother of Brandon Fiordelisi, a member of Huntington’s Class of 2012 and an accomplished scholar-athlete and three-year starter and captain for the Blue Devil varsity football team.
Brandon Fiordelisi is currently training to be a naval officer and engineer at SUNY Maritime College in The Bronx on a full scholarship. He’s hoping to gain admittance to the US Naval Academy for the next academic year.
