Dever Expected to be College Lax Star

Jack Dever has all the tools a player needs to be a lacrosse star. He was just that for the Huntington Blue Devils and no one doubts he possesses the potential to be just as good at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida where he recently started attending classes.

Dever graduated from Huntington High School last June after a sensational senior season that saw him score 29 goals and assist on 11 others from his attack position. He enjoyed a string of multiple-goal games and garnered the respect of friends and foes alike.

Huntington head coach Paul McDermott knew he could always count on the 5'10, 145 lb. Dever. "He was a great finisher on the crease and had a quick dodge from behind cage," McDermott said. "Jack had a great attitude and will continue to do well in his academics and lacrosse at Rollins College."

Dever, who wore No. 11 in high school, earned three varsity letters with the Blue Devil lax team. He had nine goals and seven assists as a junior and quickly developed into one of the top players on the team. Athleticism combined with natural talent and plenty of hard work established the Huntington great as a player that opponents needed to respect and cover closely or pay a heavy price.

After spending a night at the school last September, Dever made Rollins College his first choice. He's the first player from Long Island to be a member of the Tars' lacrosse team.

Dever, who was presented with the Blue Devils' Offensive MVP Award at the senior athletic awards banquet last spring, is excited to be a part of helping to build the Rollins lax program, which recently completed its third season. The Huntington grad can be an explosive presence on the field and has the potential to make an immediate impact on the college level.

Against Greenport last May, Dever scored six goals and added an assist. He put the ball in the net five times against Bellport in April. Can he become an effective scorer on the college level? Blue Devil coaches and fans would unswervingly answer "yes."

Rollins College was founded in 1885. It has a combined undergraduate and graduate enrollment of about 3,100. The Rollins men's lacrosse team competes in NCAA Division II – Deep South Conference.
