Huntington School Board Notes
Huntington School Board members have accepted the resignations of David Casemento (director of science and instructional technology) and Rosalia Alvarado (Jefferson School teacher aide). Mr. Casamento has accepted a position in East Williston and Ms. Alvarado is relocating.
Trustees granted probationary teacher appointments to Amanda Meyer (math) and Stephon Sair (physical education). Part-time teaching appointments were approved for Sarah Hall (.9 Latin), Gene Acevedo (.7 social studies), Deidre Meyer (.6 French), Gina Trigian-Molvaut (.8 French/Italian) and Christina Gottlieb (.2 SEARCH).
Trustees granted child care related leaves of absence for teachers Alissa German (Washington special education - approximately Oct. 18 to Jan. 18), Lorraine Costello (high school art -2010-11) and Bernadette Walsh (high school guidance counselor -approximately Oct. 1 to Dec. 13).
Approved a series of budget transfers from one account to another to cover costs associated with the purchase of workbooks ($8,500), textbooks ($4,500), supplies ($16,000), contracted services ($4,320), fourth grade science labs and elementary Mad Science/Science Spectacular shows ($4,700), overtime at Huntington High School ($5,000), student internship advisor stipends ($8,000) and special education workbooks ($3,500).
Long-term substitute leave replacement teaching positions were granted to Matthew Perlongo (Finley math), Ashley Williams (Washington special education) and Joan Castles (high school special education).
Trustees also took the following actions:
• Approved a contract with Western Suffolk BOCES in the amount of $9,300 to update the district’s demographic study. The study will involve researching area demographics, including housing considerations, and preparing a set of projections from 2011-2020.
• Approved non-instructional position stipends for 2010/11 for Elizabeth Troffa (district clerk), Frank Conforti (energy manager), Al White (property control), Marta Smith (translator), Margaret Creighton (deputy treasurer) and Jack Abrams (Heritage Museum curator).
• Approved instructional coordinator position stipends for 2010/11 for Stephen Henry (physical education/athletics), Katie McCourt (special education) and Georgia McCarthy (driver education).
• Recalled Southdown School special education teacher Jessie Brennan from the preferred eligibility list, effective Sept. 1.
• Approved the addition of Giuseppe Alviano, Joseph Askerberg, Ryan Askerberg, Jeffrey Barone, Ian Belanger, Oscar Bonilla, Jordan Brett, Robert Carson, Thomas Calderaro, Ruben Garcia, Michael Gedacht, Justin Giani, Timothy Gonyou, Shameika Hansen, James Lawrence, John McGrath, Angelo Palmieri, Andrew Rispoli, Jose Torres, Patrick Wright and Lahmel Beard to the district’s list of substitute custodians.
• Approved Margaret Florio to work as a clerical substitute.
• Approved changes in assignment for Roberta Roth from senior account clerk to school purchasing agent and Wanda Aviles from high school food service worker to Southdown School’s lead food service worker.
• Authorized post-season pay for spring athletic coaches Debra Cheskes, Jennifer Fudens, Ronald Wilson, Eli Acosta, Marc Jensen and Amanda Meyer.
• Appointed Christine Doherty as a 12-month account clerk typist, effective July 7.
• A request to retire was approved for Woodhull School special education secretary Patricia Nuzzo, effective at the close of business on August 31.
• Awarded an RFP (request for proposal) to BBS architects and engineers for building condition surveys. The State Education Department has mandated completion of the surveys by January 15, 2011.
• Approved Chase Bank as the district’s primary depository for payroll, trust and agency, school lunch fund, federal fund and the general fund.
