Huntington School Board Notes
Huntington School Board members approved a contract change order related to the two classroom addition to Woodhull Intermediate School. The order decreases by $7,650 the value of the general construction contract between the district and KEM Construction. The amount represents an unused allowance and reduces the contract sum to $431,970.
Trustees appointed Marie Riccoboni (English, J. Taylor Finley Middle School) and Linda Kohan (social worker, district-wide) to probationary faculty positions. Ms. Riccoboni, who has worked in the district as a long-term substitute since September 1, 2007, will have a probationary period running from January 25, 2010 through January 25, 2011. Ms. Kohan, who has worked part-time for the district since December 18, 2000, will serve a probationary period stretching from January 5, 2010 through January 5, 2013.
Long-term substitute appointments were approved for Washington School speech teacher Kathryn Sequino (January 30 – June 30), Flower Hill School speech teacher Jacqueline Leonard (January 30 – June 30), Woodhull School classroom teacher Christine Draghi (January 11 to approximately March 5) and Flower Hill School classroom teacher Catherine Alexander (January 30 to approximately April 19).
Trustees also took the following actions:
• Authorized clerical worker Bik Bialkowski to receive mileage reimbursement for travel between Woodhull and Jack Abrams intermediate schools.
• Approved the disposal of an IBM Selectric III typewriter and Sharp laser copier that are both beyond repair.
• Listened to a first reading of a new confidential Medicaid disclosure policy.
• Approved a contract with Syosset Home Tutoring, Inc. at a newly reduced rate of $40 per hour for home teaching and resource room tutoring.
• Authorized Superintendent John J. Finello to attend a conference presented by SCOPE on Friday, January 29 from 11:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Bourne Mansion at St. John’s University’s Oakdale campus. “Tsunami of Changing Student Populations on Long Island: Its Impact on Schools, Students, Staff and Community” will feature St. John’s professor Dr. Jonathan T. Hughes and a panel of various speakers “who are attuned to the needs of the changing population.”
• Approved a contract with the Glen Cove City School District related to special education services it provides to one or more children who reside in the Huntington School District.
• Authorized Adrien Fell and Michael Mohlenhoff to serve as band drivers during the 2009/10 school year. They will be paid $24 per hour when they work.
• Approved a change in assignment from four hours per day to five hours per day for food service worker Penny Brown.
• Authorized the addition of numerous individuals to the substitute employee list including teachers Jaime Croker, Diana Chwalisz, Elizabeth Fiore, Kuriaki Glodowski, Michelle Gunther, Deborah Hemphill, Jeneva Mitchell, Maria Oliva, Kevin Osborne, Jeanne Pomponio,, Kelly Roberts, Michelle Sangiovanni, Michelle Spiteri and Neil Wilensky; clerical workers Frances Blum and Susan Martin; food service worker Debra Smith and teacher aides Donald Burch and Nicole Nobile.
• Approved a part-time piano accompanist appointment for Richard Liebowitz. He will be paid $24 per hour when he works.
• Authorized school nurses Diana Priolo, Elizabeth Steiner, Linda Schiess, Karen Martin, Elizabeth Scannello, Martha Ironman, Katherine Khokhar, Connie DeGrassi, Jacqueline Silvers and Maryann O’Neill to attend up to 90 minutes of OSHA training at their current hourly rate of pay.
• Approved a consultant services contract with Heather Thorgersen to provide four days of workshops for SEARCH program students.
• Authorized James Greenberg to work part-time in the buildings and grounds department.
• Approved Matthew Harris and Linda-Ann Astefanous as stage crew advisors at J. Taylor Finley Middle School. They will each be paid stipends of $1,588.
• Approved a contract with the Half Hollow Hills Central School District for special education services provided to children residing in the Huntington School District who have been placed in non-public schools located within the HHH boundaries.
• Approved full-time appointments for food service driver Frank Rogers, Finley Middle School special education aide Christopher Obi and Huntington High School senior clerk typist/special education Jo-Ann Trama.
• Authorized post-season pay for coaches Debra Cheskes (varsity girls’ cross country), Christopher Helmke (varsity girls’ swimming), Margaret McConnell (asst. varsity girls’ swimming), John Walsh (varsity girls’ soccer), Richard Hogan (asst. varsity girls’ soccer), Jennifer Rodgers Vettorato (asst. varsity girls’ soccer), Jillian Talleur Seher (varsity field hockey) and Kathleen Wright (asst. varsity field hockey).
• Appointed Jason Giachetti and Frank Battista as winter percussion advisors and Amy Ganon as winter guard advisor at Huntington High School.
• Approved English teacher Kenneth Krummenacker to work in the alternative high school program at a rate of $51.19 per hour.
• Authorized Susanne Kaczor to receive additional compensation as a teacher supervising a teaching assistant at Jefferson School.
• Authorized Kevin Thorbourne to work as an athletic supervisor at a rate of $30.47 per hour.
