Superintendent Clarifies
State Aid Misconception
It’s been repeated several times and Huntington School District Superintendent John J. Finello wants to end any misconception once and for all. The district is not in danger of losing any of its regular state aid as a result of the Board of Education’s decision to reassign students out of Jack Abrams School.
“The decision to reconfigure the elementary grade levels will have no impact on the regular state aid allotment we receive,” Mr. Finello said. “There appears to be some confusion over the difference between regular state aid and the aid a district receives on building projects. Hopefully, everyone will come to understand that our regular state aid is unaffected by the decision to move students out of Jack Abrams School this year. We are not losing any state aid.”
Mr. Finello added that any possible impact on new building/construction aid would be factored in by administrators and Huntington School Board members when considering any recommendations made by the district’s Long Range Facilities Planning Committee that involve constructing new classroom space.
