Huntington School Briefs

 

Huntington School Board members accepted two separate donations at their meeting this past Monday night. The Suffolk Association of School Business Officials donated $500 for use in offering a one-scholarship for a member of Huntington High School’s Class of 2011.

 

The Flower Hill School PTA shared decision-making team donated $2,150 for the purchase of a SMART Board at Flower Hill.

Budget Transfers

At their meeting on August 9, Huntington School Board members approved a series of budget transfers to covers costs associated with the purchase of magazines at Jack Abrams Intermediate School ($300), Spanish textbooks for the dual language program ($1,500), attendance at the International Alliance for Invitational Education’s annual conference ($4,900), social studies supplies at J. Taylor Finley Middle School ($416.21) and social studies supplies at Huntington High School ($1,349.54).

Substitute Administrators

Huntington School Board members have approved retired district administrators Jack Abrams, Anthony Barresi, Lois Markland and Peter Sepez to work as per diem substitute administrators during the 2010/11 school year.

Next School Board Meeting

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Huntington School Board will be held on Monday, August 23, 2010 at 7 p.m. in the large group instruction room at J. Taylor Finley Middle School. The public will be given an opportunity to address trustees.

New Finley Teacher Hired

Jaclyn Ambrosio has been approved for a probationary appointment as a home and careers skills teacher. She will be working at J. Taylor Finley Middle School during the 2010/11 school year.

 

Ms. Ambrosio obtained a BA degree in family and consumer sciences from SUNY College in May 2009. She is currently studying for a master’s degree at Dowling College.

 

Prior to coming to Huntington, Ms. Ambrosio worked as a long-term substitute teacher in the Sachem school district from November 2009 to March 2010.

 

The district received 114 applications for the position and conducted six interviews before Ms. Ambrosio was recommended for appointment.

Guidance Counselor Appointed

Lauren Baglivi has been appointed to work as a long-term substitute guidance counselor at Huntington High School. The appointment will run from September 1 to January 28, 2011.

 

Ms. Baglivi earned a BS degree in psychology at Sacred Heart University in 2007 and obtained a master’s degree in school counseling at Hofstra University in 2009. She completed internships at Bassick High School in Bridgeport, Connecticut (January-April 2007) and Huntington High School (January-June 2009).
