District Unveils New
Curriculum Guides

A set of new elementary grade level curriculum guides were unveiled by the Huntington School District earlier this summer. The guides cover kindergarten through fifth grade and were vetted and approved by the district’s Educational Development Committee and Board of Education.

“The guides were developed to provide information to our parents and community on what students are learning in grades K-5,” said Dr. Kenneth A. Card, Jr., assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction. “Internally, the curriculum guides will help to define and provide consistency in the instructional program across school buildings and grade levels to ensure proper curriculum alignment and articulation.”

The new guides have been posted on the district’s website at www.hufsd.edu. Once on the site, click on the Leadership tab and then click on the link for the Office of Curriculum and Instruction. Scroll down that page and look under the section labeled Curriculum Guides.

Dr. Card cautioned that the guides are not meant to be all-inclusive of what teachers present to students in the district’s elementary grade level classrooms. “While the guides reflect key performance indicators in the core curriculum, they may not be an exhaustive representation of what is taught in each subject area,” Dr. Card said.
