Chisolm’s Natural Balance at Heckscher Show

Alexander Chisolm is not only one of the top scholars in Huntington High School’s Class of 2010, he’s a gifted artist, too.
Mr. Chisolm’s mixed media piece, “Natural Balance,” was chosen for display in this year’s Long Island’s Best show that is running at the Heckscher Museum through May 2.
A student in Huntington art teacher Kasmira Mohanty’s class, Mr. Chisolm drew inspiration for his artwork from A. Lawrence Kocher and Albert Frey’s “Aluminaire House,” a 1931 perspective sketch.
“The Aluminaire House by Kocher and Frey definitively illustrates the core values of the modernist movement,” Mr. Chisolm wrote in an artist’s statement accompanying his work. “The structure is defiantly solid, yet intrinsically inviting, and emphasizes the importance of nature. In ‘Natural Balance,’ I tried to capture the thematic essence of the house through the lens of the architectural dream.”
The work of 211 top young artists was nominated for inclusion in the show by 60 Long Island art teachers. A selection committee chose the works of 75 students for display. A festive opening and awards presentation was held on Sunday, April 18 and visitors have been impressed.
