Catching up with Venice Lagone

Venice Lagone could have gone to college just about anywhere but she chose the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and never regretted it. The 2008 Huntington High School graduate has already completed a list of honors courses and is immersed in all sorts of activities on and off campus.

“School has been busy this year,” she said during a recent interview. “I just finished my application to study abroad in Italy next semester and now I am completing my application to the business school here.” UNC’s Kenan-Flager Business School sports one of the top MBA programs in the country.

The Huntington alum was also recently chosen to be on the Academic Affairs Committee of the honors program executive board. “I have been getting more involved in clubs this year,” Ms. Lagone said. “I joined a dance group that puts on a show at the end of the semester. I also joined a conservative publication on campus as a writer. I am still active in my sorority Alpha Delta Pi, business fraternity Delta Sigma Pi, UNC honors program and the UNC College Republicans.”

At Huntington, Ms. Lagone was an excellent student and was involved in many different extracurricular activities, including the Highsteppers, the high school’s competitive dance team. She was an Advanced Placement Scholar and member of the National Honor Society, Math Honor Society and Foreign Language Honor Society. She was also one of a handful of seniors to earn the New York State Scholarship of Excellence.

At UNC, she is once again establishing a fine record in and out of the classroom. “My classes this semester are demanding but interesting,” Ms. Lagone said. “I am taking Calculus-based Micro Economics, Financial Accounting, Polish, Conspiracy Thinking (honors section) and The Dismal Science: Industrialization in Modern Europe (honors section).”

Her teachers at Huntington will always remember Ms. Lagone as a sweet, gentle and soft-spoken young lady who was a joy to have in class.
