Principal's Message
March 7, 2008Dear Parents and/or Guardian:
Spring is here! I am looking forward to the many exciting events planned. Please join us and stay involved with your child’s learning in and out of the classroom.
Our theme for this month is “Responsibility” and Thursday Thoughts will highlight activities each week. “The most worthwhile endeavor I have ever undertaken is responsibility for my own life.” LeVar Burton
The Shared Decision Making Team is continuing to sponsor our “Parent University Workshops.” On March 18th at 7pm “Escape Stranger Danger Workshop” will be presented for parents and their child, (5th and 6th grade only) about safety. In April, Angela Berner will present – How your child’s ELA tests are scored and strategies to help work with your child.
We have begun our Recycling Campaign with a Poster Contest sponsored by Covanta Huntington. Ms. Weinstein’s and Mr. Helstrom’s classes had full class participation. We are anxiously awaiting their response. As we encourage everyone to recycle in school, please talk to your child(ren) how you can recycle at home.
Our Playground is still in need of improvement. Please help us fundraise for games and equipment for our “off the field” recess. March Madness will be our biggest staff fundraiser organized each year by Mr. Suarez. It will be held on March 13th at the High School gymnasium at 6:30pm. Huntington Intermediate will play Woodhull Intermediate staff. The following team members from our school staff are: Jason Suarez, Eric Triolo, Steve Fitts, Dawn Ginty, Carolyn Naldi, Jackie Smith, Sarah Fardella, Heather Barfus and Laurie Jovans. It is a game to see!
Our 4th graders will be going to the circus on March 24th. Our Physical Education teachers are coordinating the trip in conjunction with their circus unit in class. Arts and Education will sponsor an assembly on March 27 for 5th graders titled “Buffalo Soldiers.”
Our 6th graders are preparing for their Greenkill Trip or stay at home Environmental Program.
As always, our Birthday Celebrations are in the middle of the month. This month all March birthdays will be celebrated 9th period on March 19th. Please refer to The Wellness Policy for suggestions to send in other than food.
Please do not hesitate to call me if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Mary Stokkers
Principal
