Spring Adult Ed Program Course Offerings Announced

The Huntington School District’s adult education program will hold in-person spring semester registration on Wednesday, February 4 in the Huntington High School lobby from 6-9 p.m. for an assortment of practical and intriguing courses. The district has been providing residents with an adult education program for more than 60 years.

Regular course fees are set at $15 for resident senior citizens (60 years of age and over whenever space is available, except for those classes marked special fee or limited), $55 for other district residents and $65 for those living outside the Huntington School District.

Fees do vary based on the specific course and the duration of the class. (One day seminars can run as little as $20 for residents.) Spring classes begin the week of February 23.

The spring course bulletin can be found on the district’s website at www.hufsd.edu; Click on the School Community tab and then on the Adult Education link and finally on “Forms and Files” to access the brochure. The publication contains course locations, room numbers and scheduling information.

Class registration is also available online through TurboRoster.com. Details on how to utilize the online registration option are listed in the spring course bulletin.

The program is consistent with the district’s philosophy that learning is a lifelong process, continuing through every stage of adulthood. “We continue to search for and develop broad-ranging courses that appeal to all segments of our adult community,” Superintendent James W. Polansky said. “Our spring offerings reflect these efforts.”

(Note: Senior citizens discounts do not apply to seminars.)

There is also a two-night auto insurance reduction course sponsored by the National Traffic Safety Institute on Tuesday and Thursday, March 24 and 26. The fee for the course is $35 for residents and $40 for non-residents. An insurance discount for three years is available to those who complete the class.

There are several courses offered through Western Suffolk BOCES, including Adult Basic Education (GED) and beginner, intermediate and advanced classes in English as a Second Language.

Course and seminar sites include Huntington High School, J. Taylor Finley Middle School, Jefferson Primary School, Southdown Primary School, Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School and Woodhull Intermediate School. Exact locations for individual offerings can be found in the program brochure. Classes run for eight weeks unless otherwise indicated in the spring program bulletin.

“It remains important for community members to share their ideas and provide feedback so that we can readily continue offering a similarly appealing program moving forward,” Mr. Polansky said.
