Mother's Day Tea at Flower Hill School

Flower Hill School second graders in the class of teachers Lisa Baldanza and Suzanne Guiliani celebrated Mother's Day by inviting their mothers to building for tea and a very special performance.

In preparation for the day, students created flowered sun visors and framed their writings and poems. The classroom was decorated with flowers. A video was also developed that included photos, special memories and comments in honor of all the mothers.

The Mother's Day tea get-together is an annual event for Mrs. Baldanza's and Ms. Guiliani's class. Each year students write about their fondest memory of their respective mom. This year, one student wrote, "I love my mom because she helps me when I'm stuck on a word. I love my mom because she gives me love. Mom you're the best!" Similar sentiments were expressed by other students in the class.

As the hour approached when the mothers were due at the school, students could hardly contain their excitement. The youngsters presented their mother's with a rose and escorted them to a chair, where the parents patiently waited for be served a choice of iced tea or lemonade.

Students later donned top hats and sang the Broadway tune, "One." They followed by reciting a favorite memory of their respective mother. There wasn't a dry eye in the room at that point. "It's quite a special day for the students and their moms," Mrs. Baldanza said.
