Nick Lupi Accepts Sacred Heart
Mat Scholarship

If Nick Lupi can duplicate his high school wrestling success on the college level, Sacred Heart University will be thrilled. The two-time all-state Blue Devil mat man has signed an NCAA Division I national letter of intent and accepted a scholarship the school located in Fairfield, Connecticut.

"Signing with Sacred Heart was an important decision," Lupi said. "My family and I were happy to pick a wonderful university to extend my sports and academic careers. Sacred Heart features a combination of tough athletes and bookworms that makes it a perfect environment to work in."

Lupi, who has worked closely with Huntington wrestling legend Lou Giani, has been a mainstay in the Blue Devil mat lineup for years. The teenager took second in Suffolk as a sophomore, third as a junior and first this past winter. He was fifth in the state championships last year and took third as a senior, compiling a 35-2 mark.

"I am so glad to see Nick's hard work payoff," said Kieran Mock, Huntington's head coach. "He is a true student-athlete. Sacred Heart is an excellent academic school with an up and coming wrestling program. It should be perfect fit for Nick.

Lupi has been a consistent winner with the Blue Devils. He captured the National High School Coaches Assn. sophomore national wrestling championship and has been among the best in New York at 220 lbs. in each of the past two years.

The Huntington senior intends to major in international business at Sacred Heart. Lupi said the highlight of his career "was looking at the happiness in the faces of my family and coaches when I won the Suffolk County title."
