Blue Devils Make Statement at St. Anthony's Invitational

In a field that featured some of the best athletes in the tri-state area, the Huntington High School boys' track and field team made a statement of sorts in the St. Anthony's Elite Invitational in South Huntington last weekend. The Blue Devils proved they belonged with the best.

Huntington senior Shaheem Lewis was golden in discus, hurling the disc 167'8 to take first place in a field of about 120. It marked the second consecutive year that a Blue Devil claimed victory in the event as Trayvon Toney earned top honors in 2012 with a throw of 148-feet. Lewis was fourth as a junior. (Toney now plays football at Hobart College.)

Lewis also took third place in shot put with a toss of 52'4. Huntington senior Devon Nelson finished sixth in the event with a personal best distance of 50'6. The shot put field included more than 100 athletes.

There were several other fine performances by the Blue Devils. In the 400m intermediate hurdles, freshmen Exayvian Crowell and Infinite Tucker finished ninth and 20th, respectively. Crowell crossed the line in a personal best of 58.6 seconds, while Tucker clocked in at 61.2. The field included 90 runners. In the high jump, sophomore Sondy Jean-Baptiste placed 10th with a leap of 5'10.

"It was a great showing overall for the Blue Devils," said Ronald Wilson, Huntington's head coach. "We were very proud of their performances this weekend."

The Blue Devils are slated to travel to Middletown this weekend for another invitational competition.
