Blue Devil Comeback Stuns Sayville

Trailing 3-0 after the first quarter, the Huntington High School boys' lacrosse team had two choices: fold-up and lie down on the road to Sayville or pull it together and mount a comeback. The Blue Devils never considered the former, embracing the latter instead, en route to an 8-4 victory.

Huntington scored two unanswered second quarter goals to cut its deficit to one at 3-2 by halftime. The Blue Devils went on to outscore the Golden Flashes in the second half, 6-1 to grab a hard fought win and move into second place in Suffolk Division II.

Chris Schoen had two goals and two assists and Ben Kocis added a pair of goals and an assist. Huntington also received offensive firepower from Billy Martin (two goals), Connor Birchard (one goal), Josh Long (one goal) and Patrick Reilly (one assist).

Blue Devil goalie Tyler Greenhill turned in one of his best performances ever, stopping 17 blistering Sayville shots. Huntington defensive corps of Peter Goldsmith, Connor McCartney, Christian Jamison and Tim Mattiace was once again stellar, playing aggressively and chasing down every ground ball.

Huntington is now 9-2 in league play and 10-3 overall. Shoreham-Wading River is on top of the standings with a 10-0 record against league opponents.
