Flower Hill Assists Make-A-Wish Foundation

Flower Hill Primary School has always had a big heart. It's a compassionate community filled with youngsters who care about each other and the world around them.

Helping folks in need is something that Flower Hill's students do exceedingly well. The most recent example of this came when 50 children participated in the school's third annual story hour. Sponsored by Flower Hill's third grade classes, the event raised $340 to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Suffolk County.

"Since the third graders started their fundraising efforts, they have raised a little over $900 towards their $6,000 goal," said Tracey McManus, one of the Flower Hill third grade teachers coordinating the initiative.

During the story hour, third graders read to their fellow Flower Hill students, who were organized according to their grade level. J. Taylor Finley Middle School Honor Society members Max Angstadt, Michael McMorrow and Nicholas Newell pitched in to help at the event and contributed to the story hour's success.

"So far the children have participated in a bake sale and recycling project to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Suffolk County," Mrs. McManus said. "The students are very excited to be participating in the effort to raise funds needed to grant the wishes of children that have life-threatening medical conditions."

Those willing to help the Flower Hill third graders reach their fundraising goals can contact Mrs. McManus at tmcmanus@hufsd.edu.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation "grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy," according to the organization's website.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation is the largest wish-granting charity in the world with 62 chapters in the United States and 43 international affiliates on five continents. The Suffolk chapter, with is funded entirely through private donations, has over 150 active volunteers. The organization has more than 25,000 volunteers in all across the nation.
