HHS Senior Hopes to Own NYC Bakery

Sydney Andree has a few more months to go before she graduates with fellow members of Huntington High School's Class of 2013, but the teenager is already planning for her future.

Ms. Andree transferred from St. Patrick's School to Huntington Intermediate School for the start of fourth grade. She immediately blended right into the student body and now counts many fellow seniors as close friends.

The teenager has participated in various high school activities, including the field hockey program as a freshman and sophomore and participating on the fencing team in ninth grade.

This year, Ms. Andree is enrolled in various courses that interest her, including photography, forensics and business law. "Of those classes, forensics is my favorite," she said. "I find it to be rather interesting. I would say it's probably one of my most favorite classes that I've taken over the past four years."

Ms. Andree has worked well with Huntington High School faculty members and built a number of strong relationships along the way. "My favorite teacher is Mrs. [Gina] Colica," the senior said. "I had her in ninth grade for English and in twelfth grade for multicultural literature. She's a great teacher and is very nice."

The soon to be Huntington alum plans to pursue an associate's degree at Suffolk Community College and then transfer to a New York City university to complete a bachelor's degree. "I want to take pastry courses in both colleges as well as business management courses," Ms. Andree said. "In the future, I hope to own my own bakery in New York City."

"Sydney is one of my best friends," said Nikki Smoot, a member of Huntington's Class of 2013. "We've been close all throughout high school. She truly is an amazing person and is a very hardworking student. I know that she will do something spectacular after graduation."
