Ralph Carino has joined the staff of the Huntington High School lacrosse program. He will be the assistant junior varsity coach this spring.
A Blue Devil lax alum, Carino went on to star at C.W. Post College, where he was a two-time All-American at attack. He has played for and coached the Long Island Squids lacrosse team.
Carino earned his undergraduate degree in criminal justice in 2006.
Feltman Finishes Fourth
Huntington High School junior Rachel Feltman finished fourth in the Suffolk 1-meter diving championships. "Rachel is a fantastic diver," head coach Christopher Helmke said. The teenager placed second in the league in the 1-meter event.
Girls' Track Eyes Penn Relays
The Huntington High School spring girls' track and field team is planning to compete in the Penn Relays in April. Huntington School Board approved the overnight trip during a meeting of the trustees this past Monday night.
The Blue Devils will travel by train to Philadelphia, leaving on April 24 and returning on April 26. The team will travel with other Suffolk squads who will also be competing in the Penn Relays.
Since the meet features top tier competition and athletes, the Blue Devil coaches will determine in late March if Huntington's relay teams and distance runners will have the necessary times to participate in this year's event.
Finley Sports Participation
The second winter sports season at J. Taylor Finley Middle School features 96 student-athletes participating on four teams. There are 43 wrestlers, 20 boys' volleyball players, 17 eighth grade girls' basketball players and 16 seventh grade girls' basketball players. There are 63 boys and 33 girls participating.
Flor is Dedicated
Erica Flor finished her career with the Huntington High School swimming team in grand fashion. The senior co-captain was All-League in the 200 IM, 100 backstroke and 400 freestyle relay and qualified for and swam at the county championships in four separate events.
"Erica is a seasoned, dedicated athlete who will continue to excel as a backstroker in college," head coach Christopher Helmke said. She has great leadership qualities."
