HHS on Display at High Arts Showcase

Huntington High School art students are well-represented at the Huntington Art Council's High Arts Showcase, which annually features exceptional work created by talented teenagers from across the region.
High Arts Showcase IX is being held in the Art-Trium Gallery, which can be found in the atrium of a huge Route 110-area office building located at 25 Melville Park Road, just south of the Long Island Expressway. The exhibit will continue daily through March 22 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday-Friday and 8 a.m.-1p.m. on Saturday. It is free and open to the public. Huntington parent William Grabowski serves as curator of the Art-Trium Gallery.
Huntington juniors Andrea Cerini (digital illustration), Angelica Tome Radigan (digital illustration), Nina Flores (charcoal on paper) and Samantha Guzman (clay, feathers and mixed media) and seniors Anna Wertheim (collage), Michelle Pechar (digital photo with watercolor), Nikki Smoot (digital photo), Soyeon Park (mixed media), Meghan Hansen (mixed media) and Wilmare Aviles (clay, gaze) were invited to exhibit their impressive work in the prestigious show.
Huntington High School art teachers Kristin Singer, Amy Worth, Kasmira Mohanty, Pam Piffard and Devin Aurrichio have one or more of their students in the showcase. Ms. Aurrichio coordinated the district's participation.
"The fine arts students and staff at Huntington High School are, by far, among the most talented in the area," Huntington Superintendent James W. Polansky said. "The High Arts Showcase provides a dignified and professional venue for them to display their extraordinary work. We are grateful to the Huntington Arts Council for sponsoring the event and I look forward to attending personally."
Elite student-artists from Huntington, Commack, Harborfields, Plainview-Old Bethpage, Northport, North Babylon and Walt Whitman high schools are participating in the showcase.
"I am very proud of my students. It is always very hard to decide whose work to submit for art exhibitions," Ms. Piffard said. "This year Nikki [Smoot] and Michelle [Pechard] had pieces that were both beautiful, creative and show the depth of their talent. I was proud to submit these pieces knowing that they really display their artistic creativity."
"It was an honor to be selected to show my artwork in the High Arts Showcase," Ms. Smoot said. "It's really cool to be involved in such a well-respected exhibit."
Works spanning all mediums are on display. The show's festive opening reception was held last Friday evening. The opening night crowd was entertained by a Huntington High School honors string quartet consisting of Jennifer Polster, Hailey Giordano, Andrea Cerini and Adelia Witt. Huntington music teacher Lisa Leonardi directed the group.
