Rebecca Alligood Says Goodbye
to Huntington

Although she is moving to Maryland with her family, Rebecca Alligood will always be remembered around Huntington High School, which as of this Friday night will be the teenager's alma mater.
The senior plans to attend Hagerstown Community College where she will start down the road to becoming a foreign language teacher. Ms. Alligood, who is known around the school as Reba, is one of just three members of the Class of 2013 to earn the National Choral Award in recognition of her exceptional vocal talents.
"My senior year has been the best year I could imagine," Ms. Alligood said. "I have friendships that I'll never forget. The highlight would be softball for me. I was captain and Emily Kata and I helped lead the team to the playoffs for the first time in many years. Our team became a big family and we always had each other's backs, whether on the field or off."
Ms. Alligood considers her experience in Spanish class to be another highlight of her final year in high school. "Mrs. [Eliana] Oranges became not only my favorite teacher, but a friend," the teenager said. "She was always there to help me through anything. I've been with her for two years and even though she's retiring, she's become a huge part of my life. I always looked forward to her greeting me as I soon as I walked in with the biggest smile on her face."
The Blue Devil softball team's second baseman, Ms. Alligood delivered many clutch hits for Huntington. Head coach John Walsh will always fondly remember the senior's gung-ho attitude and work ethic. She will always be a member of the softball team's family.
"I'm moving to Maryland the second week in July," Ms. Alligood said. "I've dedicated the part of my summer that I'll still be in New York to having as much fun as possible and spending it with my friends. I want to really enjoy every day and make the last couple weeks with my friends the best and memorable."
