H-ton Mathletes Honored at
Suffolk Dinner
The Huntington High School Mathletes take their competitions as seriously as any Blue Devil sports team. They also savor success just as much as anyone else. After another solid year, the group has much to celebrate.
The Huntington Mathletes "A" team finished in second place in its division. The team consisted of Brian Gilbert, Marc Feldman, Greta Farrell, Dan Gallagher and Emaad Khwaja. Messrs. Gilbert and Feldman were among the top scorers in all Suffolk County.
"This is the second year in a row we finished in second place in the division," said Keith Mattis, a Huntington math teacher who serves as the senior level team's faculty advisor. The Mathletes regularly work on math puzzles and problem-solving techniques between matches with opposing high school teams.
Mr. Mattis and the Huntington Mathletes "A" team were recently feted at the Suffolk County Math Teachers Association Math League's annual awards dinner at the Watermill in Smithtown.
Huntington's Mathletes program appears to be in for continued success since the ninth grade junior division team coached by teacher Amanda Meyer captured first place in its division.
