Blue Devils Capture Kohl Mat Crown

Five Huntington High School wrestlers won weight class championships as the Blue Devils rolled to an easy victory in the team standings at last Saturday's Kohl tournament at Suffern High School.

John Arceri (99 lbs.), Corey Jamison (126), JP Puca (152), Nick Lupi (220) and Anthony Puca (285) captured individual titles. Brandon Mendez (145) and Asher King (195) finished in second place. Oscar Romero placed third at 195 lbs.

Four of Huntington's five champions took relatively close decisions in the finals. Arceri and Anthony Puca both won by identical 4-1 scores. Jamison edged his foe, 3-1. JP Puca nipped his opponent, 1-0. Lupi won by pin in 1:25.

Final team standings: 1. Huntington-268; 2. Monroe-Woodbury-201.5; 3. Port Jervis-166; 4. Suffern-152; 5. Garden City-143; 6. Manhasset-116; 7. Henry Hudson-102; 8. East Ramapo-81; 8. Nyack -81; 10. Somers-66; 11. Bethpage-45; 12. Sleepy Hollow-38.

In dual meet action, Huntington's wrestlers topped visiting Harborfields this past Friday afternoon, 52-21. Arceri, JP Puca, Romero and Lupi all won by pin. William Thomas, Jamison, Jorge Villela, Mendez and John Mallouk all captured decisions. Kyle Mock and Anthony Puca won by forfeit.
