Flower Hill Shines at
Family Sports Night

Flower Hill School's annual family sports night brought together more than 100 youngsters and dozens of admiring parents for a variety of fun activities, including races, contests and even a tug-of-war.
Some of Huntington High School's future sports stars were surely among the group of enthusiastic boys and girls who participated in this year's PTA sponsored event, which was once again chaired by parent Stephen Fox. There's so much interest in the evening that it's held in the more spacious gym at J. Taylor Finley Middle School.
This marked the second year the PTA has hosted the event. "We started the night with relay races, four-way tug-of-war, a hoola hoop contest and scooter races," Mr. Fox said. The students displayed a level of enthusiasm that has come to be expected from Flower Hill students. Parents cheered them on from the sidelines.
"Steve did an amazing job organizing activities for over 100 youngsters," parents Shaki Coulter said. The evening was capped off with a raffle of prizes donated by Michelle Baldi of Rookies and Brad Rosen of Station Sports. It seemed like almost every youngster won some sort of prize.
The event was also open to the siblings of Flower Hill students. The youngsters displayed obvious enjoyment while showing off for each other and their parents. There were plenty of refreshments on hand to quench the thirst of participating athletes. Mrs. Coulter said that Mr. Fox was just as energetic as the kids.
There were smiles all around as the youngsters quickly transitioned from event-to-event during the fast-paced evening. When it came time to say their goodbyes, participants didn't want to leave just yet. They were still having too much fun.
Mr. Fox said he is already looking forward to next year's sports night.
