H-ton JV Girls' Volleyball Goes Winless

A young, fun-loving Huntington High School junior varsity girls' volleyball team finished the season with an overall record of 0-13 under head coach Theresa E. Matthews.
The squad included seven rookies who were new to high school volleyball. "By season's end, every player had successfully served over the net in a game," Matthews said.
The nine-player Huntington team was led by Giselle Aparicio, Marissa Acton, Meghan Scolo and Emma Black. Aparicio and Acton captained the Blue Devils.
Aparicio was the team's defensive specialist. She was also able to play setter when needed. "Giselle exhibits outstanding leadership qualities," Matthews said. "She's very self-confident and strives to help others succeed."
Acton was a consistent outside hitter for the team. She's also an emerging server. "Marissa is a very intense player who seeks perfection," Matthews said.
Scolo emerged as a "terrific" middle blocker and an "intense" middle hitter. "Meghan has tremendous potential, solid foundation skills, great blocking ability and is a very strong hitter," Matthews said.
Black was Huntington's offensive specialist, setter and a strong server. "Emma is quite versatile and was our 'go to' girl," Matthews said. She can play multiple positions." Black is known for her good court sense and for being an "intelligent player," the coach said.
The outlook for next year is positive. "All nine girls' will return," Matthews said. "Seven were rookies this season. The league competition will remain championship caliber."
