Washington Students Win Honors

Principal Marsha Neville and Washington Primary School teachers and support staff members recently recognized a set of hardworking and enthusiastic boys and girls who were cited for their sterling efforts during January.
Students lined the hallways as Mrs. Neville read the names of the latest Washington Ways award recipients over the building's public address system. As the youngsters' names were announced, classmates cheered and congratulated them. The honored students were presented with certificates and later posed for a group photo in the main lobby.
The honorees included Harrison Uvena, Michael Mendikyan, Griffin Kanzer, Valerie Ferreira, Leah Jensen, Hannah Song, Jeiry Chavez, Brandon Fucci, Joselin Benitez-Villatoro, Haileigh Smith, Hingri Ayala-Mejia, Vito Aloe, Jason Santos, Emanuel Mejia, Sarah Berry, Jeffrey Hernandez, Briana Arias, Carrie Kilgour, Natalia Quinones-Franco, Alana Wallace and Shakel Plummer.
The classes of first grade teacher Kristen Thatcher and second grade teacher Suzy Dinehart were also recognized. "It was a pleasure to recognize such conscientious students and classes," Mrs. Neville said.
The Washington Ways student recognition program utilizes three different colors of tickets, which are a hot commodity around the school. Red tickets are presented to individuals for notable good behavior outside of classrooms, including hallways, buses, the playground and cafeteria, etc. At the end of the month, the student in each class with the greatest number of red tickets is recognized with a special certificate.
Entire classes can earn blue tickets for positive group behavior out-of-the-classroom. Blue tickets are also awarded to the two classes within the building with the most tickets overall. Students enjoy being cited and collecting the colorful tickets.
White tickets are awarded weekly for good behaviors and actions in the classroom. White ticket winners are honored with special recognition in their classroom at the end of each week and their names are announced every Monday morning.
