Cadle-Hinton Wins Suffolk
Shot Put Crown
Maia Cadle-Hinton was unbeatable at the Suffolk small school girls' winter track and field championships last weekend. The Huntington High School senior captured the county shot put crown to pace a solid showing by the Blue Devils.
Cadle-Hinton turned in a strong performance at Suffolk Community College-West in Brentwood, winning a tough battle in a tough field. Senior Michelle Clerveaux was also among the top shot put finishers, placing third in the event.
Sophomore Suzie Petryk continued a string of fine efforts by crossing the finish line fourth in the 1500m in a new school record time of 4:59.77. The teenager is coming off a sensational cross country season and is rapidly becoming a Blue Devil star.
Huntington's 4x400m relay team consisting of seniors Jontae Smith, Kerri-Ann Giambruno, Adelia Witt and Katie Healy also placed fourth, shattering the previous school record in the event by finishing in 4:20.81.
Blue Devil juniors Haley Drace and Morgan Mars turned in season-best performances in the triple jump.
"It was a great effort by all the girls," head coach Debra Cheskes said.
