Huntington Schools in Session from Feb. 18-22
There will be no mid-winter vacation for Huntington School District students and teachers. After Hurricane Sandy forced the cancellation of classes for nearly two weeks, there is plenty of instructional time to make-up.
The district's original calendar for 2012/13 provided for a five day recess that was scheduled to stretch from February 18-22. A similar calendar was in place for districts across Long Island. However, the violent fall storm that swept through the region forced districts to close their doors and necessitated calendar adjustments to meet the state required number of instructional days.
Huntington School District parents have been notified that the February vacation week has been cancelled and regular school days will be held in its place. Parents and students will be reminded of the calendar change.
"Administration and faculty district-wide are planning for a routine instructional week during what was formerly scheduled as February vacation," Huntington Superintendent James W. Polansky said. "Absent students will be required to make up any and all work, as they would if they had missed days at any other time of year."
Athletic teams will hold practice sessions and after-school clubs will conduct meetings during the week. Teachers will provide regular lessons and students will take whatever tests and quizzes are given. The district's food service program will offer breakfast and lunch, similar to any school day. Regular bus service will be provided.
