Relay For Life Deadlines are Approaching

Hundreds of Huntington High School students are expected to participate in the Relay For Life on Friday-Saturday, May 17-18. Organizers are spreading the word about some important deadlines and happenings as the campaign to raise funds to help the American Cancer Society stop cancer heats up.

As of early this week, 64 teams comprised of 616 participants had already raised $89,587 for this year's Relay For Life at Huntington High School. The Huntington School Board members' team has obtained almost $4,000 in contributions. It is hoped that more teams will be formed in the next week and the number of participants rises even further.

The looming important deadlines include:

May 1
• Youth policy forms from every team member are due.
• Chaperone agreement forms are due.
• Last team captains meeting in the Heritage Museum Room at Huntington High School at 7 p.m. (The above forms can be submitted at that time.)

May 4
• TeamDreamBig is holding a car wash at Jefferson Primary School from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

May 10
• $100 must be registered on-line in order for Huntington High School students to stay past 11 p.m. at Relay For Life on May 17-18.
• Absolutely no Huntington High School student will be allowed to stay past 11 p.m. without the youth policy signed and handed in by May 1 and $100 registered on-line by May 10.

May 1-17
• Huntington High School's first "17 Days of Relay" celebration will be held. Beginning on May 1, there will be a different daily theme in support of Huntington's Relay For Life.
Fundraiser alert

Good 2 Go Deli has offered to donate 10 percent of each Relay For Life teams' dinner order back to Relay! The deli will deliver teams' orders directly to the teams' tent and 10 percent of the cost of the order will go directly back to their teams' fundraising goal.

"We are encouraging all team captains to organize their teams' orders and call them in any time between now and Friday, May 17," said Nikki Smoot, a senior who is coordinating the Huntington event along with classmates Molly Prep and Gabe Goldman. "This deli is also donating trays of food to our survivor reception, so they are truly supporting our Relay!"
