Q & A with Scout Ziegler
Q: How old are you and what grade are you in?
Ziegler: "I am a senior and almost 18 years old."
Q: How did you first get interested in photography?
Ziegler: "I signed up for Intro to Photo as a sophomore because I thought it sounded like a fun elective and I ended up really enjoying taking photographs as a hobby."
Q: Where do you get your ideas?
Ziegler: "During my first year of photo most of my inspiration came from examples Ms. Piffard showed us for specific projects she assigned. In Advanced Photo, Ms. Piffard introduced us to Flickr and Pinterest, where we could look at countless photographers' work to get ideas. Magazines, fashion billboards and ads now serve as most of my inspiration since I mainly enjoy shooting fashion photography."
Q: Is there any specific type of photography you like best?
Ziegler: "I love fashion photography."
Q: How has the Huntington photography program helped you with your love of photography?
Ziegler: "Ms. Piffard has been the most amazing teacher the three years I've been enrolled in the photography program at Huntington. She has taught me everything I know about photo, from developing film, to learning Photoshop skills and teaching me the importance of evolving my own style. I absolutely owe my skill improvement and love for photography to her support, advice and guidance along the way."
Q: What has your experience with taking AP 2D been like?
Ziegler: "AP 2D has been my favorite photography class I've taken in high school. It's more self-motivated and you get to choose what your main focus of shooting will be so that by the end of the year you have a concentration; a collection of your pictures with a common theme. My concentration is editorial fashion so I was able to spend all year shooting what I mainly enjoy taking pictures of."
Q: What are your plans for next year?
Ziegler: "I will to be attending Emory University in Atlanta, where I will most definitely continue taking photography classes. I'm grateful that Huntington's amazing photography program introduced me to a life-long hobby that, hopefully, I will be able to incorporate into a career!"
